Panoramic Views

A phone, a tablet, and a book are arranged atop a deep, forest green background. The phone displays the teal-green front cover of the 2024 summer issue of academic journal Via Panoramica, while the tablet shows an excerpt with testimonials about Ursula K. Le Guin’s influence. This summer issue commemorates the 50th anniversary of Le Guin’s novel “The Dispossessed”, but the book in the image is Le Guin’s “The Lathe of Heaven”. In the image’s upper right corner, a modern orange-red table lamp contrasts with the greens.Every once in a while, when I have enough time, I still return to the realms of academic work. It’s a great opportunity for keeping up-to-date with the latest research in certain fields of literary studies, not to mention it allows me to apply knowledge in more theoretical ways.

So I quite enjoyed the opportunity to again join the scientific committee of Via Panoramica. An open access electronic journal published by CETAPS, it aims to provide an encompassing view of numerous themes within the field of Anglo-American studies.

This 2024 summer issue also proved extra special: Celebrating Ursula K. Le Guin and the 50th anniversary of The Dispossessed, in addition to contributions by young as well as senior researchers, it has a section featuring personal testimonials about Le Guin’s influence in the work of various Portuguese writers and professors. For me? It all comes down to goats and critical thinking.

A thank you to Joana Caetano—the journal’s executive editor—for the invite.
